Chemical Engineering

Oil and Gas Field Operations Series program: Module 1

Introduction

Module 1 of the Oil and Gas Field Operations series program discusses the origin of hydrocarbon-bearing formations, exploration for hydrocarbons and the chemical composition of hydrocarbons. Procedures linked to artificial lift systems, pipeline pigging, and crude oil production will be covered in detail. Students will also become familiar with wellheads, casing and completions, separators, heater-treaters, wastewater treatment, crude oil handling, and custody transfer

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss underground activities as related to the formation, exploration, drilling and recovering of hydrocarbons
  • Describe various artificial lift systems, their design and operation, and specific maintenance procedures
  • Provide an overview of pipeline gathering systems and pigging procedures
  • Trace the flow and treatment of crude oil including separation, emulsions and emulsion treatment, wastewater treatment, and disposal, crude oil handling, static electricity and custody transfer of crude oil

Target Audience
  • Petroleum engineers
  • Production engineers
  • Project engineers
  • Field Operators
  • Chemical engineers
  • Production facilities supervisors
